Militants waiting to infiltrate: Army

The Army on Tuesday revealed that 500-600 terrorists were ready to infiltrate Kashmir valley from launch pads across the Line of Control with Pakistan.

“500-600 terrorists are waiting for an opportunity to infiltrate from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir launching pads. In recent months, the Army made foiled several such attempts,” General Officer Commanding (GOC) of  valley based 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Om Prakash told reporters here.

The GOC said that it was never possible to eliminate infiltration. “You can’t give guarantee of zero  infiltration due to geographical reasons,” he said.

Gen Prakash said the Army has no plans of surgical strikes on militant camps and hot pursuit of militants across the LoC.

“Armies of both the countries are eyeball to eyeball and there is no plan to carry out such strikes,” he added.

The GOC put the number of active militants in the Valley at around 300. “The presence of militants is more in north Kashmir areas compared to south Kashmir.”
