India today said it will decide on the future course of action only after knowing about the inquiries being done by the UAE and the US into the US Navy ship firing incident in Dubai, assuring full assistance to the victims who are fishermen from Tamil Nadu.

Expressing regret over the death of the Indian fisherman, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur today said "there is some constraint because it is a police case, that they will have to finish the formalities before we can repatriate them but we will give fullest assistance and bring the people back."

On India's action in the matter, she said "the UAE government and the Americans, there is an inquiry going on at the moment and both have said in a very transparent manner that we will come to know of what the inquiry is. So, once that comes out, then will be the appropriate time to see what action has to be taken".

She also noted that the MEA has got in touch with the family of Sekar, the fisherman who was killed in the incident, and will make all efforts to ensure that mortal remains reach them at the earliest possible.

An Indian fisherman was killed and three others were wounded yesterday when a security team onboard a US Navy ship fired at their small boat off the Dubai coast.

The fishing boat had four Indians and two Emirate nationals on board when the incident took place at the docking point, according to an UAE official.
