Bail for BSY: CBI appeals in apex court

Last Updated 18 July 2012, 18:28 IST

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday approached the Supreme Court challenging the June 21 order of High Court of Karnataka , which granted anticipatory bail to former chief minister B S Yeddyuarappa and others in an illegal mining case.

A senior official confirmed to Deccan Herald that the agency “has filed a petition in Supreme Court challenging Karnataka High Court order, which gave anticipatory bail to Yeddyurappa and others”. The officials, however, refused to divulge any other detail of the petition.

The Karnataka High Court on June 21 had granted conditional anticipatory bail to Yeddyurappa and three other members of his family in an illegal mining case holding that the allegations in the CBI FIR were “not something new”.

In the verdict, Justice Subash B Adi said that the report of Central Empowered Committee on illegal mining on the basis of which apex court had directed the central probe agency to investigate the matter was “a carbon copy” of the first complaint on illegal land de-notification  filed by advocate Sirajin Basha in which Yeddyurappa has already been granted bail.
