Last Updated 19 July 2012, 19:00 IST

Thieves broke into a private forex company on Wednesday night on Residency Road and made away with Indian and foreign currencies worth several lakhs.

Employees of Weizmann Forex Ltd, opposite Nagarjuna Hotel, noticed the store shutters and safe doors open when they came to open the office on Thursday morning. They immediately alerted the seniors in the company.

Srija, the senior general manager, put the loss at Rs 30 lakh.

A safe and two almirahs, where the currency was kept, had been broken into. A case has been registered at the Ashok Nagar Police Station. Police officials told Deccan Herald that there had been no forced entry into the office. “They seem to have used duplicate keys. The rolling shutters, the glass doors and the almirahs and the safe, were all opened using duplicate keys.

Given the ease with which the theft has been carried out, it looks like the handiwork of some insiders,” said a police officer investigating the case. Police have already questioned several members of the staff.
