Membership drive from Sept 23

Addressing a news conference Mangalore and Udupi District Earthmovers Association Vice-President Vijay Rai said that during the two days, they will hold door-to-door membership drive.

He said that off late people from other states have been coming to the district and have been carrying on earth work at much lesser price, which has left the local earthmover organisations in dire straits.

“If a break even point for a work is Rs 800, these businessmen from other states have been taking up work at Rs 650 due to which we are suffering. Hence unions and associations must be strengthened here to work in Kerala model where people from outside are not allowed to take up works at all,” he said and added that the present cut throat situation is giving rise to unhealthy competition hence some regulation needs to be brought in. Office-bearers Nithin, Steven, Kantharaj and President Purushotham Shetty were present.
