Shoe firm officer gunned down in City

A 36-year-old deputy general manager with shoe and apparel company Woodland was gunned down by assailants Friday morning outside his house at Indirapuram, Ghaziabad when he was returning home after dropping his daughters off at school.

Nitin Sharma of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and a resident of Sector 4, Shakti Khand at Indirapuram was coming back home after dropping off his daughters Vanshika (10) and Anshika (6) at the nearby Cambridge School when two men fired bullets at him as soon as he got out of the car outside his house, leaving neighbours and family members terrified, police said.

After pumping in ten bullets at him, the assailants walked away from the spot.  The victim’s wife Shalini Sharma was on the balcony when the gunmen shot dead her husband. She heard her husband question the assailants: “Why are you attacking me and what I have done?” She rushed down only to find her husband in a pool of blood. Shalini kept screaming for help for nearly 15 minutes before neighbours took out his car and rushed him to Shanti Gopal Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Superintendent of Police Ghaziabad City, Shiv Shankar Yadav told Deccan Herald that Sharma had just stopped his car before his house when the two assailants, aged between 20 to 25 years, came close and started firing at him. Nitin tried to take shelter inside the house but bullets followed him. One bullet hit the car and the other a scooter.

An eyewitness said that neighbours came out of their houses after hearing gunshots but nobody tried to nab the assailants who, brandishing their pistols, walked to a car parked in another lane and fled from the spot.

Yadav said that Sharma received six bullet injuries. Senior police officials rushed to the spot. After post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.

Police suspect that it might be a case of personal enmity as he had fired a few people from the company in the recent past.

“It’s too early to say anything concrete about the assailants and their motive behind the murder. We have taken down description of the accused from the family members and neighbours and have informed the neighbouring police stations about the suspects,” said Yadav.
