Power situation may worsen, says Shobha

The Raichur Thermal Power Station’s (RTPS) capacity to produce electricity is on the decline for shortage of coal and an ever-increasing maintenance work, according to Minister for Power, Shobha Karandlaje.

The situation could worsen if adequate steps to revive it were not taken, Karandlaje said in her address at the 43rd Founder’s Day of Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) here on Friday. The electricity supply in the State could also worsen if there are no sufficient rains.

Karandlaje feared that the government might not give free power to farmers and subsidise it for consumers for long. She urged KPCL workers to be prepared to work for long hours, if required. “I request you to not mind if your husbands return home late from work,” she told the women in the audience.
