Parties to boycott CMC bypoll

Voters Awareness Forum has called for boycott of by-elections to 13 wards of city municipal council (CMC). With the district affected by drought and only six months remaining for CMC to complete its term, members of the forum said holding elections would be a waste of funds.

Former MP G Madegowda said holding elections would cause a loss to the exchequer and useless.

Members of BJP, JD(S) and Congress district unit also expressed their support to the boycotting the elections. They also said that independent candidates should also be dissuaded from contesting in the elections.

Devaraja Urs Backward Classes Forum president L Sandesh said elections wouldn’t benefit development of the ward as the budget has already been presented. Leaders of all three parties should refrain from contesting in the elections, he added.

MLA M Srinivas said president of each party should take a decision on the issue. Candidates, who have already submitted their nomination should also be urged to withdraw their candidature.
