There are shortage of land for disposing the waste in various gram panchayats in the district. The Gram panchayats should identify paisari land for waste disposal.

Tahsildars should take an initiative and identify paisari land, said Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah and District-in-Charge Minister M P Appacchu Ranjan.

Speaking at Madikeri taluk panchayat KDP meeting here on Saturday, taluk panchayat members said there is shortage of land for disposing waste in Hakathoor gram panchayat. Coffee estate owners have encroached the paisari land at several places.

The authorities should initiate stern action against the encroachers with the help of the police. Ranjan said that “all the gram panchayats should earmark paisari land.

Otherwise there would be problem in disposing the waste in the future.”

Bopaiah and Ranjan expressed dissatisfaction over poor progress in the implementation of programmes related to Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana in Madikeri taluk.

The work on several school buildings have not been completed. The Minister urged the authorities to furnish details on the work taken up under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana.

The Speaker said that 16 gram panchayats in Madikeri taluk have won Nirmal Gram Puraskar.

The remaining gram panchayats should strive for the award. Ranjan said that the work on Man’s Compound and Yuva Bhavana is moving in snail’s pace.

The work should be completed by December end.

Galibeedu Gram Panchayat President Deen Bopanna said that the tourists are creating nuisance to the local residents in Mandalpatti and Abbeyfalls in Madikeri taluk. Action should be initiated against such tourists, to which Ranjan directed the Gram Panchayat PDOs to install a notice board to maintain cleanliness in tourist spots.
