JOIN USA legal literacy drive is to be launched in the district on Tuesday. The drive aims to improve public awareness of ordinary legal and judicial procedures.
It is to be held at Dr B R Ambedkar Bhavan at 10 am in the city. District and Sessions Judge S Y Eranna will preside over the inaugural programme.
The Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer, B S Shekharappa; deputy director of Women and Child Development department, Surekha, and president of the advocates’ association, Tammegowda, will also participate.
The programme has been organised by the district court, the advocates’ association, the district administration, the Zilla Panchayat and the departments of Education, Women and Child Development, District Health and Family Welfare, Police, Excise and Labour.
Deputy Commissioner Dr N Manjula will inaugurate the programme and DSP T D Pawar will launch the mobile public courts.
Second event
At 2 pm on the same day, a legal awareness programme will also be held at the government high school on BB Street.
Head master K H Channamallikarjunaiah, Lokayukta prosecutor N Raghuram and additional public prosecutor K M Govindareddy will participate.
Advocate T S Vijayashankar and president of the district child protection committee A G Sudhakar will present the papers.
Advocate R Srinivas and district health officer Vijayakumar will deliver lectures during the programme at 5 pm at the government primary school in Hunegal.
A play, directed by Lawyer P Subramanya, will also be staged on the occasion.
