Sericulturists and reelers staged a protest on Monday, demanding the installation of a toilet and basic amenities at the Shidlaghatta market.

The installation of a toilet should be a priority. Later, tenders should be called for providing other basic facilities, protesters said.

“Thousands of sericulturists and reelers visit the market every day. The lack of toilet is a serious inconvenience. We are forced to use open places to urinate. This leads to various other health problems,” said Ramakrishnappa, a sericulturist.

Protesters also demanded that street lights be repaired, and asked for a system to allow for the disposal of garbage. They also asked for water to be supplied to the market area.

Later, protesters submitted a memorandum to Sericulture Market deputy Director Hanumant- harayappa.

Sericulturists Nandappa, Baba, Chandrappa, Prashanth, Srinivas, Venkatakrishna , Fakaruddin, Babajan, Usmansabi and others were present on the occasion.
