Strict action will be taken against MLAs who indulged in cross-voting during the Presidential elections, said Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday.

BJP State party president K S Eshwarappa has constituted a fact-finding committee to ascertain the detractors, he said.

Expressing unhappiness over the incident, Shettar said the party would take stringent action against the MLAs who cross voted, on submission of the report.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar said the episode had shocked him and caused embarrassment to the party. It is unfortunate that horse trading continues to thrive, he said.

BSR Congress party president Sriramulu admitted that BJP MLAs and MPs associated with him had voted in favour of Congress presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee.

Speaking to reporters in the Assembly lounge, he expressed happiness over Mukherjee’s election as the President.

However, he refrained from mentioning the names of those who cross-voted in favour of the former Union Finance Minister.
