JOIN USA 16-year-old girl who resisted molestation by four men on a train was seriously injured when she was pushed out of a coach near here on Tuesday.
The girl, a resident of Vidyaranyapura in Mysore and employed at Hinduja Garments in Bangalore, had left the factory in the afternoon after she fell ill. She later boarded the Yeshwantpur-Mysore Express to reach home.
Four men boarded the train when it arrived at Ramanagara station. They teased the girl and tried to lure her with money. When she rejected their advances, they tried to molest her. When she resisted, the men pushed her out of the train near the Shimsha bridge. The fall left her with serious injuries.
The police and local residents rescued her and admitted her to Maddur Town Hospital. After administering first aid, she was later admitted to District Hospital in Mandya.
The girl told Deccan Herald at Maddur Town Hospital that there were not many passengers on the train at the time of the incident. She was cornered by her tormentors. To escape them, she reached the door of the coach to get down at Maddur station to lodge a police complaint. The accused rushed to the door of the coach and pushed her out.
The railway police arrested the four men, identified as Akbar, Ibra him, Amjad and Subhan. Akbar and Ibrahim were held at Mandya station. Amjad and Subhan were arrested near Pandavapura station. A case has been registered at Mandya station.
Hundreds of women working in garment units in Bangalore travel by train. Many have experienced similar harassments. They say the Railway Police have failed to take any action despite numerous complaints.
