A jewel box as big as a house

Last Updated 25 July 2012, 14:28 IST

The blush of a bride as an emotion coupled with incredible tradition of embellishment as the highest offering creates some of the most poignant images of people’s lives.  How does one balance history, tradition, and the finest workmanship and yet have the most contemporary fit and make? This defines Tarun Tahiliani Couture.

The fourth edition of the Tarun Tahiliani Couture Exposition commenced with the unveiling of the ‘Jewel Box,’ an edgy set made entirely of glass featuring the latest offerings from the designer’s bridal couture collection. The jewel box has been crated by AIS Glasxperts.

Reinterpreting the splendor of the age-old treasure box in a novel, modern way, the collection will be on display in this contemporary glass setting till 28th July at DLF Emporio.

Distinctive Indian cultural richness and unabashed modern glamour will be on view in 35 spectacular Tarun Tahiliani Couture creations. Bringing a culturally rooted, yet highly contemporary sensibility to the time honoured wedding ritual, the exposition shares the season’s newest trends, exquisite designs and jewel colours in bridal and occasion wear.
“Tarun brings imagination alive with fabric, while we strive to create an oneness with nature, but with glass. Through his evolution of ideas, the Bridal Collection breaks boundaries of style, elegance and attention to detail where modernity meets craftsmanship.
Inspired by him, we deliver aesthetics and lifestyle innovations in glass, making possibilities a reality,” said Sanjay Labroo, MD and CEO, Asahi India Glass Ltd (AIS).

More  than  just  a  design  marvel  in  glass,  jewel box is an exhibition  area  for  the exposition. A cuboid of glass 14 feet in height, almost the height of a double‐storey glass building, the ‘Jewel Box’ was envisioned to add further embellishment to – and complement – Tarun Tahiliani’s couture creations will be showcased within.
