JD(U) to back Jaswant for V-P post

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday met NDA Vice Presidential nominee Jaswant Singh at his residence in what is seen an effort to smoothen relationship with coalition partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which touched a low after his opposition to NDA Presidential candidate P K Sangma.

Kumar pledged Janata Dal(United) JD(U) ’s full support to Singh and said NDA is together in the August 7 Vice President election.

“NDA is together. We support him (Jaswant Singh),” he told reporters after the meeting.
However, Nitish brushed aside the question whether he would talk to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for support to Singh. “The BJP leaders are competent to do so,”  he said.

Nitish Kumar was accompanied by party spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari and Members of Parliament N K Singh, R C P Singh and Baidyanath Mahato.  BJP leaders Shahnawaz Hussain and Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who are assisting Singh in the poll, were also present.
Jaswant Singh thanked Kumar for the  support and said : “ I am grateful to Nitish Kumar for his support.

“I wanted to meet the Bihar Chief Minister in Patna but Kumar chose to visit him in Delhi,” he said. JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav later said, Nitish Kumar had come to meet Jaswant Singh and gave an assurance that he would have no problem in Bihar in the Vice Presidential poll.  “There is nothing to worry in Bihar,” he added.
