With the arrest of six men, Delhi Police on Friday claimed to have foiled an attempt to loot an Axis Bank ATM at central Delhi’s Daryaganj.

Nooruddin, 40, Mohhamad Islam, 51, Mohhamad Gulfam, 40, Nafis, 42, Mohsin, 40, and Akram, 35, were held with two country-made pistols, a semi-automatic pistol, along with seven live cartridges, a knife and a dagger late on Thursday.

“The action was taken after  secret information that a gang would assemble near Chandni Mahal to loot an ATM,” said Devesh Chandra Srivastva, additional commissioner of police (central).

On receipt of this information, a trap was laid near Gali Sujjan Rai.

Around 10.50 pm, six suspicious persons were asked to justify their presence in the area to which they could not provide any proper reply.

“They were then caught and overpowered by our team,” Srivastva added.

Nooruddin was the gang leader.

They carried arms to thwart resistance from victims during their robbery attempts.
Nooruddin also disclosed that he and his accomplices were involved in cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, robbery, violations under the Arms Act, causing hurt, snatching and violating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at several police stations in the Capital.
