The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), all set to supply water under Cauvery 4th Stage, Phase II, is also gearing up to check unaccounted water connections and losses by installing drinking water meter connections in the greater Bangalore areas.

At a meeting on Saturday, BWSSB Chairperson Gaurav Gupta told the officials that with the execution of the project, the total number of connections will increase to eight lakh in the next three months and maintenance cost of water network too would go up. So it is an urgent necessity to address the problem of unaccounted water connections now, he said.

Out of the 27 sub-divisions under the BWSSB, 10 are located in outer Bangalore. The officials have been directed to add 1,000 water connections every week in each sub-division. By the end of 20 weeks, the number of houses with new meters in new Bangalore should touch two lakh, he said.

To expedite the process, another meeting with divisional heads will be convened on July 30.

Gupta has also directed the officials to take private agencies’ help to get applications filled by end-users and also create awareness on formalities to get new water connections.

He also told them to identify and remove power and motor connections to borewells which are defunct in areas of greater Bangalore to plug the wastage.
