Former MP and Congress leader Basavaraj Rayareddi on Tuesday accused the BJP government of hiding information from the legislature and the public on a proposal by  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh  to sanction developmental boards for Hyderabad-Karnataka areas under Article 371(2) of the Constitution.

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Rayareddi alleged that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had taken a unilateral decision by rejecting the proposal made by the Prime Minister (in his letter dated January 12) without even bringing it to the notice of the legislature or Opposition leaders.

The Chief Minister had written back to the Prime Minister insisting that suitable amendments may be made to Constitution on the lines of special provision under Article 371(D) for providing for regional reservation.

He demanded that the Chief Minister immediately convene an all-party meeting and discuss the proposal made by the prime minister in detail.
