Kalawati not to contest elections

Kalawati(48) was named to contest the October 13 polls from Wani in Yavatmal district as Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti (VJS) nominee as part of opposition campaign to undermine the ruling Congress-NCP alliance’s pro-poor claim.

But in a interview to a Marathi newspaper, the widow of a farmer in Vidarbha whose poverty was highlighted in Parliament by Rahul, said she was being “pressurised” to contest the elections and that she was unaware of what election and politics were.

“I do not want to contest the elections,” she had told the newspaper alleging that workers of VJS, an NGO, had made her announce before the TV cameras that she would contest the Assembly elections.
