Congress, CPI (ML) stage protest over Mangalore incident

Parties urge stern action against those who assaulted women

The Congress and the CPI (ML) members staged separate protests in Chikmagalur against the assault on youth at Morning Mist homestay in Padil.

The protestors burnt the effigy of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike and submitted a memorandum to the Additional DC.

The CPI (ML) members took out a procession in the mainstreets of Chikmagalur and shouted slogans against Hindu Jagarana Vedike. They urged the state government to book all the attackers under Goonda Act.

Addressing the protestors, the CPI (ML) district President I M Poornesh said that there was a rise in the attack and assault on women and children in the recent years.

The government has failed to protect women and children. The Hindu fundamentalists have been exploiting women, he alleged. The protestors urged the authorities to arrest those who attacked women. The State government should initiate measures to contain all sorts of assault on women and children.

The State government should also help a minor who was raped in Madikeri and a girl who was pushed out of moving train by the molesters.

Stir by Congress

The Congress members burnt the effigy of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike State convenor.

The protestors shouted slogan against the BJP government, Home Minister and Dakshina Kannada District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi.

Addressing the protestors, DCC President M L Murthy said that the communal organisations have showed their inhuman attitude by assaulting the youth. He alleged that “The incident has started in Mangalore as soon as District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi has taken charge as in charge minister. The government should ensure that such incidents do not recur in the state.”

Memorandum submitted

In the meantime, Manavatha Vedike leaders submitted a memorandum to the State government through Additional DC, urging the government to initiate action against those who assaulted women.
