Policeman-turned-rebel Champion R Sangma, who co-founded Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), was on Monday arrested by Meghalaya Police hours after he was pushed back from Bangladesh.

Official sources said Sangma, the ‘chairman’ of the group who co-founded GNLA in 2010, was pushed back in the early morning.

“He was arrested and is in the custody of Meghalaya Police,” DGP N Ramachandran told PTI. Champion was produced in a local court which remanded him in 14 days police custody, he said.

A special police team was deputed which intercepted the ultra leader, who was later identified as Sangma, police said.
