NSE tops global list in terms of trade

The country’s largest bourse in terms of daily turnover, National Stock Exchange (NSE), has made it to the top in the latest global ranking for exchanges by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), on basis of number of equity segment trades during January-June 2012.

Topping the WFE list, NSE logged as much as 735.47 million trades on its platform during this period. NSE is followed by NYSE Euronext (US) with 734.15 million trades and NASDAQ OMX with 711.78 million trades, during the same period. At the same time, NSE is the second largest exchange globally in index options, with 426.32 million contracts getting traded, for the period Jan-June 2012. NSE was followed by EUREX, where 213.09 million contracts were traded during the same period.

With this, NSE apart from expanding the investor base, it has established that its technology is comparable with the best in the world, it added.

NSE said that out of the three crore tax payers in the country, 1.4 crore are investors registered and trading with NSE. This penetration has been possible through sustained financial literacy initiatives.
