BJP demands withdrawal of tariff hike

The opposition BJP workers on Saturday staged a statewide protest against the hike in  the electricity tariff in the st

ate.

Hundreds of party workers gathered at the Civil Lines railways and courted arrest.
They came in a demonstration form the party state headquarters at  Sardar Patel Marg and reached  Civil Lines railway crossing demanding the withdrawal tariff hike saying it would add to the inflation and price rise.

“The power tariff hike is like adding fuel to fire. The people of the state are paying a huge price for the inefficient and corrupt government both at the Centre and the state,” said BJP state president Arun Chaturvedi addressing the rally.

“The prices of essential commodities are hitting the roof and petrol and diesel prices have been revised innumerable times,” said Chaturvedi.

“This is like adding insult to injury. The state government has increased electricity rates which is an unjustified move at the time when inflation is so high,” he added.

“The rates hike will not only affect people but also increase inflation further and the decision should be withdrawn,” the BJP leader said.

The leaders said though the state has created various power distribution companies after dismantling the erstwhile RSEB nothing has been done to improve the efficiency of the distribution system by this government.

The activists led by Chaturvedi, deputy leader of opposition in Rajasthan assembly Ghanshyam Tiwari and other senior leaders had taken out a protest rally from the BJP state headquarters to Civil Lines railway crossing.

Opposition leader in the Assembly Vasundhara Raje was conspicuous by her absence as she is abroad.

After the protest, BJP leaders courted arrest. Similar  protests were organised at various district headquarters.

The state electricity regulatory commission revised power tariff recently has been enforced since Friday .

The hike is 25 paise to 80 paise per unit for consumers in different categories.
