Traffic restrictions for August 15

The city traffic police have planned elaborate arrangements around Red Fort in east Delhi for the 65th Independence Day function on August 15 and full-dress rehearsal on August 13.

Arrangements will be made to facilitate movement of VIP vehicles, invitees and general public to reach the place of function as well as to ensure smooth flow of traffic in other parts of the city, said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

Some roads will also be closed for general traffic from 5 am to 9 am and only labeled vehicles will be permitted. These roads include Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S P Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk, New Darya Ganj Road and Link Road from Esplanade Road to Netaji Subhash Marg.

Adequate informative signages will be displayed for the guidance of vehicular traffic destined for the Red Fort function at all important traffic junctions. “For hassle free journey, commuters can avail the services of Delhi Metro,” Garg added.

Parking of vehicles will not be allowed at and around India Gate during evening and night hours from August 12 to 15.

NDMC authorised parking on the inner radial roads of India Gate and car parking behind water channels shall remain closed after 5 pm every evening up to August 15.

Similarly, roadside parking near India Gate — Rajpath, Man Singh Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Tilak Marg, Purana Quila Road, Sher Shah Road, Zakir Hussain Marg, Pandara Road, Shahjahan Road and Akbar Road — will not be possible.
Visitors to India Gate have also been advised not to travel by cars or two wheelers during this period.
