City cops to adopt Gujarat model?

It seems for policing too, Gujarat may become a model for city cops.

Participating in an interactive session at Kuvempunagar on Sunday, medical education and district in-charge minister S A Ramdas announced that he, along with police commissioner K L Sudheer and SP R Dileep, will be visiting Gujarat soon. Like Mysore police, who have earned a name for executing duty with measly staff compared to the population, the police in Gujarat too have earned accolades.

In a three-day tour, the top cops of both city and district wing will be introduced to the functioning of their counterparts in Gujarat. Recalling his previous visit to that state, the
minister said, women in Ahmedabad take a stroll even at midnight hours without any fear.

Students to station

That apart, another ambitious venture at reckoning is introducing students of schools and colleges to the police. As a part of extra-curricular activities, students will be taken to police stations to expose them to various wings within the precincts of the station.

Another new, also in the pipeline, according to the police commissioner is an innovative method to prevent chain snatching. After neck scarf, the police are working on inserting integrated circuit in chains that would help police keep track of the lifter.

Another is that of, inserting a semi-conductor that would produce shock the moment whoever touches it. The innovative technology is being worked out with the assistance of engineering students, the top cop added.

Commissioner of MCC M R Ravi said there are plans to clean vacant localities too along with the sweeping of the roads.
