23-year-old stabbed to death

2 juveniles in net; attackers went for the kill with revenge in mind

A 23-year-old youth was stabbed to death and his friend was injured in an attack by six men over personal enmity in Ambedkar Nagar area of south east Delhi late on Friday night.

Two juveniles have been apprehended over the incident and are being questioned to get hold of the accused, police said on Sunday.

The dead has been identified as Ajay, a resident of Dakshinpuri. He, along with friend and neighbour Vikas Sagar, was returning home after attending a Janmashtmi function in Madangir when the incident took place at around 11:30 pm on Friday.

“Vikas claims in his statement that he and Ajay were attacked with knives by Kailash, Amit, Ashu, Raju, Pawan and Vishal who knew them. The accused are absconding and efforts are being made to nab them as soon as possible,” a police official said.

It is also alleged that Kailash carried out the attack to take revenge of his brother Rakesh’s death.

“Kailash allegedly claims that Rakesh was killed by Ajay’s brother Amit Pandit,” the official added.

Vikas further told police that he and Ajay were near a gurudwara in Madangir central market when Kailash and his five accomplices waylaid them. Kailash then allegedly started shouting that Ajay’s brother had killed his brother and ordered his friends to kill him.

Soon, Amit, Ashu, Pawan and Bunty caught hold of Ajay, while Kailash and Raju stabbed him multiple times in his chest.

They also attacked Vikas when he went ahead to help Ajay and inflicted a stab wound on his right hand.

They stopped the attack when Vikas raised an alarm and noticing the commotion, locals gathered at the spot.

“The accused managed to flee towards Rajaram market,” the official said.

Despite being injured, Vikas rang his brother Kushal and friend Rohit to inform about the incident.

On the other hand, Rohit immediately reported the incident to police.

“A police control room vehicle rushed to the spot and took Ajay to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre,” the official added.

He was, however, declared brought dead by doctors and was said to have died due to internal injuries and excessive bleeding.

His body was handed over to family members after post-mortem on Saturday.

Vikas, who was taken to nearby Mehta Nursing Home by Kushal and Rohit, was discharged after first-aid treatment.

A case of murder and causing hurt under sections 302 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Ambedkar Nagar police station.
