North civic body to use 'Taare Zameen Par' idea

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) will involve students of its schools in designing the cover of school diary by organising a painting competition for them.

The best painting will be used as the cover for the upcoming student’s dairy of the Corporation-run schools named Prabodhini – one who gives knowledge.

According to the education committee chairperson of North Corporation, Rekha Gupta, the competition will be held on August 24 in which around 100 students from class 4 and 5 of municipal schools falling under its jurisdiction would participate. 

“Around 15 to 20 students from each of the six zones falling in the North Corporation will be participating in competition. A committee has been formed for the smooth conduct of competition and finalisation of cover design by selecting best paintings made by a children. Theme of the competition will be ‘My School in My Eyes’,” said Gupta.

The committee constituted for implementing the proposal would be headed by education committee member and BJP councillor Mamta Nagpal. She said the committee would meet on August 16 to finalise all the preparations related to the competition.

Two NGOs – Plan India and Saad – would bear the cost of the entire competition. “They would  provide all the material like colour, paper and othe accessories for the competition which will be held at the Civic Centre,” Gupta said.

After selecting the best painting for the diary’s cover, other good paintings might be used inside the diary as covers for every month. The civic body may also come out with its own calendar next year by using these paintings, the chairperson said.

“Calendar will bear name, class and a  small photograph of the child who the painting,” Gupta added.

In July, the North Corporation’s education committee had approved the proposal to distribute new diaries to the students. According to the proposal, the dairy will help improve communication between teachers and parents.
