Cauvery Advisory Committee meeting today

Meeting with CM to fix sugarcane price tomorrow

Forest and district in-charge minister C P Yogeeshwara said a meeting of Cauvery Advisory Committee would be held on August 16 at 4 pm at the office of the deputy commissioner in Mandya.

Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations at Sir M Visvesvaraya stadium here on Wednesday, he said the water-level has reached 100 feet at KRS.

With ryot leaders demanding release of water, he said a decision would be taken at the meeting.

He said Rs 330 crore has been approved by the cabinet to undertake lining work for the Visvesvaraya Canal.

The work would be completed by December, he assured. Yogeeshwara said Rs 7.39 crore has been released for providing drinking water to rural areas of the district. Rs 1.15 crore has been released for urban areas.

Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, an estimate of Rs 60.43 crore has been prepared for 2012-13. While Rs 30 crore has been released for Mandya CMC, each town panchayat would be given Rs five crore.

Bringing cheer to farmers, he said Rs 117.62 crore loans of 58,594 ryots would be waived off.

Referring to the demand for fixing price of crops, he said a meeting has been convened by the chief minister to discuss the issue on August 17.

MLA M Srinivas, deputy commissioner B N Krishnaiah and BJP district unit president H P Mahesh were present.
