Cultural extravaganza marks I-Day in dists

Dist in-charge ministers participate in 66th year celebrations

The 66th Independence Day celebrations were held amidst colourful cultural programmes organised in the districts.

Health and family welfare minister Arvind Limbavali, forest minister C P Yogeeshwara and housing minister V Somanna unfurled the national flag in  Hassan, Mandya and Chamarajanagar respectively.

While last year students presented a dance ballet on the struggles during the fight for independence, hundreds of students presented the ‘Hoysala Vaibhava’ dance ballet in Hassan. Cultural programmes also included patriotic songs and dances.

The dog show by sniffer dogs of the police department was one of the major attractions of the Independence Day celebrations.

Zilla panchayat president B R Satyanarayana, MLA H S Prakash, MLC Patel Shivaram, CMC president C R Shankar, deputy commissioner Mohan Raj, SP Amit Singh and others participated in the programme.

Felicitation

Limbavali felicitated 28 persons for their extraordinary contribution in various fields including education, journalism, social welfare and sports.

Vidya T L, Thilak Raj C K, Ninada R P, Sujana K Bharadwaj, Harshita A and Ayesha for SSLC, DDPI A T Chamaraj, Yashwanth K P, Shivaprasad P M, Mahesh K S for PUC, Arpitha K S and Nirmalakshi A P for degree, Kavya C N for post graduation, Nitin Siddu H L in sports, former commandant K M Suresh of home guards, Rani H S of Bharata Seva Dal, Sakleshpur constable Jamaid Khan, journalist B J Gopal, pourakarmika Sardani, freedom fighter D C Ashwathnarayan Swamy, Mamatha A N and Naveen Kumar for NCC, Devika K S, Keerthana D, Vatsala K R and Prajwal K Pai were feted in Hassan.

In Chamarajanagar, various cultural programmes were organised at the district stadium. Students from eight schools presented a dance ballet on the freedom struggle. More than 2,000 students from C R Balarapatna school, St Joseph’s, JSS Girls High School, Sevabharathi, Government PU Girls College, boys college, Government Adarsha Vidyalaya and St Paul’s School participated in the programme.
