The Independence Day celebrations were scarred for the residents of Kolar Gold Fields, as a rowdy was hacked to death in the broad daylight at Surajmal Circle in the city on Thursday.
The incident sent shock waves in the city and many shopkeepers downed shutters fearing further violence.
Standing in wait
Robertsonpet police said that Suvil, 18, was waiting at the Surajmal Circle for traffic signal to clear, when miscreants from a rival gang attacked him from behind with lethal weapons at around 12.30 pm. He was returning after visiting a relative who had recently given birth to a child in a private hospital. The miscreants hit him on the head, neck and abdomen.
A grievously injured Suvil was immediately rushed to Government Hospital in the city, but was later shifted to district hospital in Kolar. However, he died on way to the hospital, police said.
Police said that Suvil was actively involved in an attack at Frank and Co Layout in the city last June. One Arun Kumar was killed in the attack while Nayan was severely injured. Suvil was taking revenge from a family that had killed one of his family member 20 years ago.
Police suspect that Nayan, who recovered and was recently discharged from a hospital, attacked Suvil with his aide Regan and others.
Tight security has been provided at Susaipalya, where deceased Suvil resided and at Champion’s Reef, where Nayan’s house is located to avoid any untoward incident, police said.
Revenge
Suvil was murdered due to personal vengeance and culprits will be arrested at the earliest, said SP Ramnivas Sepat, who visited the spot. DySP In-Charge Puttamadaiah also visited the spot.
In order to maintain peace and order, Suvil’s post mortem was conducted at Government Hospital in Bangarpet. A case has been registered by Robertsonpet police station.
