Corrupt controlling country: Anna aides

Disbanded Team Anna on Wednesday alleged that a few corrupt politicians and corporate houses are controlling country’s destiny and a right leadership is required to challenge them.

“Today our destinies are controlled by a few corrupt politicians, officials and corporates. Hope some day we would have true democracy,” erstwhile Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

Kejriwal hoped that “some day country would get true independence, when people would control their destinies and politics would be a means to serve people rather than make money”.

Former cop Kiran Bedi also took to twitter to comment on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s address to nation on Independence Day.

“The Prime Minister says we have passed the Lokpal Bill. Does not say what kind of Bill? One which weakness the CBI further! Banks on people’s illegal illiteracy,” she said.

Bedi, who had been at the forefront during veteran social activist Anna Hazare’s protest demanding strong anti-graft legislation, also said what people need is a “measurement toll” of performance of the government.

“PM’s speech indicates what may be done. Problem is in how, the who and even the when (with eye on votes)? Huge Trust deficit” she said.

Bedi stressed that “political corruption and bureaucratic insensitivity” are the key challenges before the country and right leadership is required for change.

The Congress termed the remarks of civil society members “baseless” and said country is waiting for their entry into politics and change they will herald.

Not agree

“I don’t agree with what these people have said about politicians. They are in the habit of making baseless allegations. Now, they have decided to form a new party, so, they should try to form their government and bring changes that they want,” Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi told Deccan Herald.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that “one can not generalise and brand all the politicians corrupt, who are in power in different parts of the country; we are waiting for golden time for the Team Anna’s entry into politics and let us see what they do for the country.”
