On a perilous mission

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1’ airs on HBO at 9 pm on August 17. The movie stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. In the first part of the seventh and final adventure, Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort’s immortality and destruction — the Horcruxes.

On their own, without the guidance of their professors or the protection of Dumbledore, the three friends have to rely on each other. However, the forces they have to fight are anything but weak — every day, Voldemort is gaining more power, conquering more bastians, adding to his legions and now, he has a new hunt to keep him preoccupied: the search for the Elder Wand, which is rumoured to give its wizard immortality. Harry now finds himself facing a tough dilemma. He can choose to follow Dumbledore’s original plan and hunt out the Horcruxes, slowly chipping away at Voldemort’s immortality. Or, he can abandon that pursuit and instead seek out the Deathly Hallows — a combination of the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone and Cloak of Invisibility, which will help him conquer death.

Real twist to fiction

Would we one day be sending our superhero suits for dry cleaning along with our regular work wear? Internationally renowned physicist Dr Michio Kaku thinks so, and he also thinks that science fiction may not be so different from science fact. In ‘Sci Fi Science’, Dr Kaku investigates the likelihood of popular sci-fi beliefs and ideas that currently seem beyond the realm of possibility, and shows us that these technologies might materialise sooner than we think.
