Don't go away, Muslim leaders appeal to N-E migrants

Some of the City’s Muslim leaders appealed to the North-East community not to leave Bangalore,  at a peace meeting organised at Neelasandra.

Speculation was rife that the threats to North-Easterners came in the aftermath of the communal clashes in Assam between Bodos and Muslims, which continued into Thursday.

 It was with this in mind that Mohammed Samiyulla, member of Mecca Masjid Committee asked North East people not to believe in rumours and assured them that they were all safe in Bangalore.

“Just like we go to other cities to earn a livelihood, you have come here. We all have respect for you for the fact that you are one of the most hardworking groups of people. We do not want you to leave the City,” he said.

Samiyulla told the gathering that during the sermon after prayers, all mosques have been sensitising people about the conflict in Assam - explaining to them that the problem was not communal, but related to migration.
