Two men have been arrested for killing a 55-year-old woman after abducting her from Narela area of outer Delhi last month.

The victim, Darshana, had given a loan of Rs 4 lakh to one of the accused and was demanding it back, police said on Thursday.

Yashpal, 31, a resident of Narela, and Manoj, 22, of Gurgaon, had dumped Darshana’s body near Rohat village in Haryana’s Sonipat District.

“Yashpal had taken a loan from Darshana to start a business of plastic scrap in west Delhi’s Nangloi area. The business, however, went into losses and he was not in a position to repay the interest or the principal amount,” B S Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer) said.

Plan to eliminate

“He subsequently decided to eliminate Darshana and promised a sum of Rs 1 lakh to his unemployed friend Manoj for helping him,” Jaiswal added.

An investigation was taken up after Darshana’s son Yogesh reported on August 5 that his mother had been missing since July 21.

Yogesh told police that his mother used to spend three to four days in satsang, or prayer meeting.

But when she did not return home till July 24 his family members made enquiries with women known to his mother.

“These ladies claimed that there was no satsang on July 21 or 22,” Jaiswal added. They searched with relatives, but nobody knew her whereabouts. A missing person’s report was lodged at Narela police station.

During investigation call detail record of Darshana’s mobile phone number was analysed. It showed that she was in constant contact with a person who was later identified as Yashpal.

“It was also found that Darshana used to lend money to different people on interest. Yashpal had taken a huge amount on interest from her,” Jaiswal said.

Yashpal was apprehended on Tuesday and on sustained interrogation admitted that he had taken a loan of Rs 4 lakh.

Yashpal told police that he and his friend Manoj abducted Darshana on July 21.

They took her away in a borrowed Maruti Esteem car and Manoj strangled her with her dupatta.

“They took her earrings, gold chain, and cellphone and Rs 12,000 cash and threw her body on the side of a canal in Rohat village,” Jaiswal added.
Yashpal led police to Darshana’s body.

Police also recovered a receipt from Muthoot Finance’s Narela branch where Yashpal had deposited Darshana’s gold chain and earrings.
