Cops bust motorbike lifters

24 motorcycles worth Rs 8.5 lakh seized

Channarayapatna rural police nabbed two suspects involved in stealing motorbikes and seized 24 bikes worth Rs 8.5 lakh from the duo.

Speaking to media in Hassan on Friday, superintendent of police Amit Singh disclosed the two would steal vehicles from Hassan, Mandya, Mysore and other districts and sell them in villages in Channarayapatna taluk.

The accused have been identified as Prasanna, 37, and Shivakumar, 23, residents of Baguru village of Channarayapatna taluk. Another person Krishnaswamy involved in the theft is absconding. Police have spread a net to nab him, he added.

It is learnt that PSI Suresh and staff who were patrolling spotted the three suspects wandering in a suspicious manner on Thursday evening. They tried to escape but police caught two of them while Krishnaswamy fled from the scene.

Upon interrogation they spilled the beans on the motorbike thefts and their modus operandi. It is alleged that they decide on the bike to be lifted and Krishnaswamy used to make a duplicate key of the bike.

Later, all the three steal the motorbike and change the number plates and sell them to innocent public by assuring them to provide necessary documents in a month.

Some more cases would be cracked if Krishnaswamy is nabbed, added Amit Singh.
