JOIN USNights in Kolkata are increasingly becoming unsafe for women, as another 19-year-old girl was gang raped by some local youth when she was returning home from work on Friday night.
The incident occurred at the posh Golf Garden area in the southern part of the city when four local youth picked up a 19- year-old girl and dragged her to a multi-storied building which is under construction and raped her.
Local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the girl in a serious condition after they were informed by a student who heard the wails of the girl while he was returning home from a private tuition.
The girl was immediately rushed to a nearby M R Bangur hospital, but when her condition deteriorated further, she was shifted to Chittaranjan Hospital, police said.
“A case has been registered on the basis of an FIR lodged by the victim’s relatives and one person has been arrested in this connection,” a senior police officer said.
The officer added that according to our initial investigation, four persons were involved.
Medical test conducted
“A medical test has been conducted and we are waiting for the reports. However, as the condition of the girl is serious and she is not in a position to give the statement. Once her condition gets stable, we will definitely take her statement,” the officer said.
However, local residents claimed that the under-construction building has become a den for the miscreants.
“Occasionally, they drink in that building and misbehave with the girls in an inebriated condition. We have informed the police several times but no action has been initiated,” a local resident alleged.
