Set to go on floors

Film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela has been the news for several reasons. First, the director allegedly approached Kareena for the role. However, when the actress announced her impending marriage, rumours started that she was to be dropped from the movie because Bhansali didn’t picture a married woman playing the role.

Now, the news is out that the movie is set to go on floors next month. So says actor Abhimanyu Singh — but he refused to confirm his place in the cast of the movie. “I would not be able to talk about it right now. It is too early to speak about it. All I can say is the film will go on floors next month. I can’t tell you anything more than that,” says Abhimanyu.

Bhansali returns to direction two years after wielding the megaphone for Guzaarish.Ram Leela is the desi adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. However, no official announcement has been made on the cast of the film.

Caring for daddy

Veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha, who is recovering at home after undergoing a bypass surgery, says that he has been virtually put under house arrest by his actress daughter Sonakshi.

Sonakshi shot to fame in Bollywood with her debut film Dabangg. Apparently, Sonakshi is making sure her father takes better care of his health after his recent surgery. “I have been virtually put under house arrest by Sonakshi. She is keeping a strict watch over me — not allowing me to meet guests and taking care of my diet,” Sinha says. “She has switched off my mobile phones and is allowing only limited access to the land line phone. But, I am not complaining as she is my darling daughter,” he adds.

The 66-year-old was admitted to Kokilaben hospital in suburban Andheri on July 2 after he complained of breathlessness. Based on medical advice, he underwent bypass surgery and was discharged from the hospital on August 12. The actor confesses that he lost almost 12 kilos during his month-long stay in the hospital. A Lok Sabha member from Patna Saheb in Bihar, Sinha adds that he is missing action in Parliament, which is in session.

Sinha made his Bollywood debut in 1969 with Sajan and has acted in over 200 Hindi films, besides being a part of some Bengali and Punjabi movies. Known for his powerful dialogues, Sinha acted in hits like Kalicharan, Vishwanath, ‘Blackmail’, Dostana, Shaan and Kala Patthar.

Family time for Manoj

Manoj Bajpayee has been flying high on the success of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. But now, the actor has decided it’s time to put his feet up and he’s enjoying a family vacation.

After winning critical acclaim for his portrayal of Sardar Khan in the Anurag Kashyap-directed ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, the actor is off to London to spend quality time with his family.

“Having a family holiday in Central London. Enjoying every bit of it. No phone, no work. Wah! (sic)” Manoj, who is married to Kareeb actress Neha, tweeted. The actor will next be seen in Prakash Jha’s Chakravyuh.

No place in the remake

Actor Rahul Roy, whose super-hit debut film Aashiqui is being remade by the Bhatt camp, is not keen to do any special appearance in the movie. Apparently, he believes that this would not benefit the remake in any way whatsoever. Personally, Rahul believes that one of the interesting aspects of the movie was that it starred a new boy, who have no pre-made image in Bollywood.

“I think that only a new actor should portray the role because the USP of Aashiqui was a new boy, who had no image. If you look at it, people didn’t know what to expect,” the 44-year-old says reflectively. Asked if he would like to do a special appearance in the film, Rahul insists, “No, I do not want to do it. There is a lot of difference between Rahul Roy of that time and Rahul now. The innocence I had 22 years back — that innocence can never come back.”

Being directed by Mohit Suri, the romantic musical has Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles and both have appeared in other films. “Someone told me that Aditya and Shraddha are doing the roles. I think both of them don’t have any particular image and I think both should be absolutely right for the role,” he adds.

Rahul asserts that the storyline of the remake has to be very different from the 1990 flick as the definition of romance has changed. “Mohit is a good director. I can’t say what heights this new film will touch but this is evident that the story would be different, because there is a lot of difference between romance then and romance now,” Rahul sums up.
