Cops on Ankita's trail in Geetika suicide case

After the inability of Delhi Police team to locate former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda’s employee Ankita Singh, whose name also cropped in former air hostess Geetika Sharma’s two-page suicide note, they have now sent another team to Satna in Madhya Pradesh, to trace her.

Ankita Singh is a dancer and was spotted by Kanda when she had gone to his farmhouse in Gurgaon for a performance. Later, he gave her a job. Geetika Sharma in her two-page suicide note mentioned: “He (Kanda) has illegal relationship with a woman named Ankita Singh and has a girl child.”

A police team which had gone to Goa to trace Ankita was unable to locate her. “We want to question Ankita Singh as she is also named in the case. Till now, she is not traceable,” said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, Kanda, who was arrested in connection with the suicide of his ex-employee Geetika, is said to be not cooperating with the investigative agencies and denying any involvement with her former employee in his now defunct MDLR airline.

“Each time Kanda tries to mislead us with improper reply. He is stubborn and refuses to answer the queries. He keeps on smiling on every question,” said the officer.

Before surrendering to police, Kanda destroyed four computer hard discs and his laptop.

Police failed to get information about the missing computer parts from him. He told police that he “never used a laptop and has no knowledge about computers.”

The police also planned to conduct a brain-mapping test on Kanda, who on Saturday surrendered after evading them for 10 days. Quizzed on the issue, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) P Karunakaran said: “If required, we will do that. Nothing has come out yet as he is not cooperating.”

Police were unable to confront Kanda with his senior employee Aruna Chadda, who was arrested and sent in judicial custody as her name, too, appeared in the suicide note, after a Delhi court rejected their plea for the custody of Chaddha on Monday.

Metropolitan magistrate Vipin Kharb said he was not satisfied with the application for Chaddha’s police custody for another three days and added that police can file a fresh application for it.

Chaddha was arrested on August 8 when she was called by the police for questioning. She was later sent to judicial custody on August 16. Geetika’s brother Ankit Sharma said: “Police are still unable to extract information related to case as Kanda is not cooperating.”
