Scanty rainfall worry farmers

Last Updated 21 August 2012, 16:04 IST

The scarcity of rainfall has made the farmers to worry over the crops. They could not reap the yield even after sowing.

The farmers had sown groundnut, onion, sunflower and sessame. Except for sunflower, other seeds have not been sprouted. The plants have gone dry following scarcity of water in Birur. Owing to scarcity of rainfall, the farmers are fetching one kg of cotton from one acre land instead of six to eight quintals of cotton.

“We can not even fetch the money which we have utilised for the purchase of seeds and fertilisers,” said farmer Narasappa.
