'Art gallery in Udupi need of hour'

 Former MLA U R Sabhapathi stressed on the need for a well-furnished art gallery for organising rare photographs and art exhibitions in Udupi.


He was speaking after inaugurating the photo exhibition organised by Udupi Pioneers Photographers’ Association (UPPA) to mark the World Photography Day at Ravindra Mantapa at MGM College on Sunday. Describing the significance of photographs, he said each photograph has its own speciality. A photograph is helpful to recall the incident.


MLA K Raghupathi Bhat inaugurated the programme by clicking the photograph of Kannada actress Sanjana and received the ‘Best Guest Photographer’ award that was given to one among the guests who clicked the best photograph of Sanjana.


Senior theatre person Prof Udyavara Madhavacharya remembered Ku Shi Haridas Bhat. Senior photographer Nagaraj Varamballi was conferred ‘UPPA Puraskar’ on the occasion. The winners of state-level photography contest organised by the Association were presented with the prizes. Saligrama Ravi Kumar received camera as gift in a contest conducted for the audience.

 Kota flashback

Minister for Muzrai, Ports and Inland Water Transport Kota Srinivas Poojary who attended the afternoon programme, said that during his days of photography, it was a challenging task. Now the photography has seen a sea change.


“I was a small time photographer and now I stand as a Minister in front of you. My journey as a photographer, Gram Panchayat member, TP, ZP member, MLA and finally as the Minister has been fulfilling,” he said.

He promised that the State Photographers’ Academy will be formed at the earliest.
