Diploma students may get grace marks

Last Updated 21 August 2012, 19:57 IST

Diploma students who wrote the common entrance test recently for lateral entry into engineering courses may get grace marks for out-of-the-syllabus questions.Members of Technical Students’ Federation who met Principal Secretary for Higher Education  Siddaiah on Tuesday highlighted the problems faced by students in the examination.

A number of questions in Mathematics and Science papers were out of the syllabus.
Students in their futile bid to crack these questions were finally left with no time to attempt questions from the syllabus, said members of the Federation.

Even questions from the syllabus were not properly
represented. While questions were drawn heavily from a few chapters there were no questions from other chapters, they said.

The issue was also brought to the notice of Pre-University Education Commissioner Rashmi V.

Grace marks
As it is too late for the Karnataka Examination Authority to conduct a re-examination, awarding grace marks seems the only probable solution.
“The education department will look into the matter and decide in favour of the students,” said the secretary.
