The National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) on Friday approved the Greater Noida Master Plan 2021, bringing smile to thousands of home buyers in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida Extension in the NCR.

“The board has given a nod to the Master Plan 2021 with certain conditions,” an official said.

In 2011, the Allahabad High Court had directed the government to stop construction in the area and said the master plan was not approved by the NCRPB. The court asked the government to get the plan approved before resuming work.

The chief ministers of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, along with Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath, were present at the board meeting where the master plan was approved, the official added.

The statutory committee had approved the draft master plan in June this year, which was to be further considered by the NCRPB.

The committee had recommended certain conditions like 16 per cent area of the projects to be developed as green zones and 20 per cent flats to be reserved for economically weaker sections. These were incorporated in the draft plan.

In 2007, the Greater Noida Authority acquired 3,000 hectares of land for industrial use. Later, it carved 2,500 hectares out it for “Noida Extension,” a residential area.
