The move comes in the wake of preliminary inquiry by ADGP (Law and order) which revealed that Ravi had conspired and misused his official position to illegally register a case and settle a property dispute.

Somasundaram, a Tamil Nadu-based businessman, had alleged that Ravi had illegally picked him up from his house in Chennai and threatened him to part with his land,  which was under litigation.  An inquiry was ordered in view of the allegation.  The investigation revealed that Ravi a 1998 batch IPS officer and, then Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore South, had sent two police constables of his office to Chennai and Karaikudi to secure Somasundaram from Tamil Nadu to Bangalore for the purpose of bringing pressure on him to sell the property to one Chandru and sign the property document. According to the suspension order, the officer has been asked not to leave the headquarters under any circumstances without the permission of the state government.
