Suspected to be depressed over a love affair, a woman committed suicide on Monday by jumping off Preet Vihar Metro station onto the road below, police said.

Karishma Narang, 24, a teacher at Sai International School in Geeta Colony, jumped off around 8 am. She was a resident of Krishna Nagar in east Delhi.

She was spotted in a pool of blood near pillar number 95, and was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. Doctors there declared her dead.

An eyewitness told police that he saw her standing near the railings. “When a train came, she did not board it and after it passed, she jumped off the elevated platform,” said the eyewitness.

After going through CCTV footage of the station, police found that she came to the station with the intention to commit suicide. She had left home in the morning to go to school.

Letter found

“No suicide note was recovered from her possession. An initial investigation reveals a love affair behind her extreme step. We have found a letter in her purse in which a note repeating ‘I love you’, suspected to be written with blood, was found,” said a police officer.

Father refutes suspicion

Father Mahendra Narang refuted initial police findings saying, “She was happy and did not have any affair. She was not under depression.”

Police have seized the victim’s cellphone and are scanning calls and text messages. “We are also questioning her colleagues and friends,” said the officer.

Police after a post-mortem handed the body over to her parents.
