NAL employee crushed under lorry

Two people including an employee of National Aerospace Laboratories were killed in two separate accidents in the City on Tuesday.

Chandrakala (35), an NAL employee, was riding pillion to office on her husband’s two-wheeler around 6.30 am when a speeding borewell lorry rammed the bike from behind near 23, Equipment Department in Airport traffic police limits.

Venkatachalapathi, who was riding the two-wheeler fell down while Chandrakala was tossed in the air and fell on the road.

The front wheel of the lorry ran over her, killing her on the spot, police said. Venkatachalapathi is said to be out of danger. The driver of the lorry fled the spot.

Lift mechanic killed

Premaraj Pujari, an 18-year-old lift mechanic was killed in an accident at Goraguntepalya Circle on Tuesday.

Pujari was travelling sleeping in the last row of a bus from Mangalore to Bangalore. The driver of the bus applied brakes suddenly to avoid collision with a goods vehicle. A speeding tipper lorry which was following the bus rammed it from behind. The rear of the bus was badly damaged and Pujari was killed on the spot, police said.

Pujari was returning to Bangalore from Bantwal, his hometown. The body was shifted to
M S Ramaiah Hospital.

Women thieves held

The Banashankari police have arrested two women and recovered stolen properties worth Rs 45 lakh.  Ammayamma and Gayatri, both residents of Bannerghatta Road, used to identify locked houses during the day, by disguising themselves as ragpickers. Then then robbed houses at night, police said.

Stolen chains recovered

Nandini Layout police have arrested four persons and recovered stolen gold chains worth Rs 9.38 lakh.  Umesh, Mohammed Rafi, Shashikumar and Ramesh are the arrested.
In another case, police arrested Pramod, 27, on charges of assault and robbery and recovered a stolen car.

According to police, Pramod and three others stopped a four-wheeler near Swatantr­ayodha­n­a­gar bus stop, threatened the driver at knifepoint, snatched his valuables and drove away with the vehicle. Pramod is involved in a murder case in Vyalikaval. The three others are still at large.
