A 22-year-old man bludgeoned his elder brother to death in a drunken brawl at Anekal near the City late on Monday night. The deceased, Kumar, 28, worked as a painter. The suspect, Vijay, was a coolie.

Kumar, an alcoholic, beat up his parents whenever they refused to give him money to drink. In 2004, he had bludgeoned one of his neighbours, Sampath, to death in a drunken brawl. In 2011, he was arrested for stabbing an old lady in a bid to kill her. He was recently let out on bail.

On Monday evening, Kumar and Vijay started quarrelling over a trivial issue. When the two came to blows, Borappa, their father, tried to separate them and also hit them. Kumar then assaulted his father. Vijay took strong objection to Kumar beating the parents repeatedly and the two started fighting again. Borappa tried to separate the two and in the melee, Kumar fell down. Vijay, in a fit of rage, bludgeoned Kumar with a huge rock lying on the road. Kumar died on the spot. Vijay and Borappa fled the spot.

Police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body. Borappa was later arrested from the KSRTC bus stand in the early hours of Tuesday. The police have formed a special team to nab Vijay.
