Jarkiholi faction at it again

Last Updated 29 August 2012, 18:40 IST

The Balachandra Jarkiholi faction in the State BJP has once again started to flex its muscles.

The group which claims to have the support of 15 legislators including two ministers, has sought immediate reallocation of portfolios, appointment to boards and corporations and a new president for the State unit of the party. The members of the faction who met in Bangalore on Wednesday, decided to wait till Saturday before deciding on the next course of action.

Speaking to reporters, Jarkiholi said the party central leadership and State leaders had assured them when Jagadish Shettar had been sworn in as chief minister in July that there would be reallocation of portfolios within a month. “Despite repeated assurances, reallocation of portfolios or appointments to boards and corporations have not yet taken place”, he said.

Jarkiholi is unhappy with the municipal administration portfolio allotted to him and is keen on a plum ministry. He also wants the legislators supporting him be made chairpersons of prime boards and corporations.
