A man killed his wife in fit of rage on Wednesday and tried to hoodwink investigators into believing that she died in a robbery bid, police said.

Hari Om, 45, a resident of Asha Park in Hari Nagar in west Delhi, stabbed his 40-year-old wife Ravinder Kaur after a fight at 3 am.

“When he saw that his wife was lying dead in a pool of blood, he cooked up a story. To make the story work, he hit his eight-year-old daughter and then slashed his wrist and rushed towards the ground floor to his neighbour’s house,” said a senior police officer.

His neighbour came out and saw him bleeding. Om told the neighbour that some robbers had barged into his house, and when he and his wife resisted, they stabbed them and hit his daughter, Khushi, said a police official quoting the neighbour.

The neighbour immediately called the police control room. “We rushed to the spot and found Om bleeding and his wife lying in a pool of blood. He and his daughter, who received injuries on the head, were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital,” said the officer.

Doctors declared Ravinder Kaur brought dead and Om and his daughter are under treatment for minor injuries. Kushi told police that her father had killed her mother after a fight.

Police then interrogated Om, who runs an ayurvedic clinic near his house. Om confessed to his crime. He said he stabbed his wife in a fit of rage.

He told police that two months ago they had a premature baby, who died after delivery.
The operation was expensive and he was running short of money, over which he was depressed. He often fought with his wife over the issue.

On Wednesday morning, they again started fighting when he stabbed her, said the officer.

A case of murder was filed with Hari Nagar police station and Om was arrested at the hospital where he is recuperating. Police have informed the victim’s relatives about the murder.
