Singer Hemant arrested in dowry case


According to Inspector Satyavathi, the singer was arrested after his wife Priyadarshini lodged a complaint against him.

Priyadarshini had alleged that apart from Hemant, his father Subramanya Shastri, mother Ratna Shastri and sister Chetana Krishna had harassed her for dowry.
The couple were married in 2007. Priyadarshini had moved back to her father’s house one-and-half years ago due to marital discord.

6 held for selling imitations
Police have arrested a shopkeeper, who allegedly sold imitations of Sonata watch, and have recovered 670 fake watches worth Rs 6.70 lakh on Friday.
Police said the accused, K Vadiraj (38), ran a shop at T Dasarahalli where he sold the duplicate pieces without giving any sale invoice and warranty to the public. The owner of the shop at Chickpet, who is said to have supplied these watches, is absconding.
In another case, Kalasipalya police arrested two persons for allegedly selling duplicate automobile spare parts of Kirloskar Company and recovered spare parts worth Rs 60,000. Anniyappa (27) and Balachandra Jain (25) are the accused.
In the third case, police have arrested three persons for allegedly selling fake cassettes of Super Cassette Industries Ltd. and have recovered DVDs and MP3 players worth Rs 12.45 lakh on Friday. Police said Babusab (27), Balu (25) and Krishna (31) sold cassettes of Hindi, English, Telugu and Tamil films at their shop in Kalasipalya.

Woman run over by bus
A woman was killed, while her husband and daughter suffered critical injuries when a BMTC bus rammed into their autorickshaw in Mico Layout on Saturday morning.
Police said Shakunthala, 48, a florist, was travelling with her daughter Meenakshi (26) in the autorickshaw being driven by her husband Durga Murthy, when the accident occured. The accident led to a tense situation at MICO Layout. However, timely police intervention averted a violent backlash.
In another incident, a private bus hit a middle-aged pedestrian and killed him on the spot on AV Road in front of Ranganath Hotel on Friday night.
Bar bender killed
Govinda (35), a bar bender  was killed on Saturday morning after he  fell from the second storey of a building under construction at Wilson Garden police station limits.
