Bodies of Shopian victims exhumed

The exhumation of the bodies was done by a team of five senior doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

The two victims were allegedly raped and killed during May 29 and 30. The bodies were buried on May 30. The CBI had obtained the consent of the family members of the deceased for exhumation of the bodies.

CBI officials, magistrates, members of Shopian Majlis-e-Mushawarat (MMS), spearheading the  agitation for justice, and a local doctor were also present during the exhumation and sample taking process.

The whole Shopian township observed a complete general strike on Monday with shops, other business establishments closed and transport off the road. Very tight security arrangements were made in the town. The family members of the deceased girl and her sister-in -law identified the graves. The exhumation and sample taking process started around 6:15 am and ended at 4:15.
